Why Quakers worship in "silence"? Quaker "Meeting for Worship" is a time when we turn inward and seek to connect with God or the Divine. Silence is the method or technique for making this connection. Even though Quaker meetings are said to be silent, it is better described as an expectant waiting. We sit quietly while waiting to hear or sense the Spirit of God. Often, someone during meeting will be moved by the Spirit to share a brief and spiritual reflection, story, encouragement, song, or prayer.
